New here. Wondering if anyone has had success with GFCF diets or otherwise for BP/adhd child? We do not let 5yo dc eat anything with food coloring and do our best to limit sugar, especially processed, but wonder if we should be cutting out gluten etc.

I never tried it, but I've heard of parents that had success. If you're up to the task, it doesn't hurt to try. Just keep in mind it may help, but not replace the needs of medication and therapy.

We have had a great deal of sucess using GFCF diet but we also found a wider range of foods our son responded to particularly sugar. We removed each food on its own completely from his diet and usually after 5-7 days we noticed an improvement. We started with removing sugar and after 5days our son didn't scream at us the next day after years of screaming, this sold us on elimination diets. Using elimination diets, they usually recommend you eat the food three times in the day after 7 days of removal to see if there is a response. Our son had had a rash before using elimination diets which disappeared after we found the foods bothering him. He has lived on a restricted diet for over 5 years and is significantly better. He now experiments with food and can recognize which foods bother him quite quickly. We found the whole family had to follow each dietary restriction as if you had the food in the house he would get it. At first trying something like this it seems overwhelming but our family has gradually normalized and we find the benefits more than outweigh the difficulties.
