"Happy with school"
| |
After reading most of the posts in this forum, I am so grateful for my 10yr old daughters school. She is in a school for kids with emotional issues. Five or six kids to a class, two teachers per class, centerstone mental health worker at the school, IEP updates when needed, lots of contact from people at the school, all learning and teachings are different for each child and they stay in the class with their peer group. They do leave the class for individual speech and occupational therapy. Its a county "public" school. My daughters teacher is also bipolar and I even have her cell phone number and on bad days when Tiff has had to be restrained or just a bad day her teacher will call me and ask how her evening is going. The centerstone worker at the school even comes to the house, goes to psyc doc appointments to give info on school behavior. She will even pick kids up at their home for school if they are not wanting to go. I was very lucky to get her into this school. I did have to fight for my child and was very lucky to have gotten in touch with the right people at the board of education. My daughter is not stable by any means though. She just got out of the psyc hospital for breaking my nose and destroying my house. Her meds are not stable. She has been on about everything and it is a constant battle. Her dad is bipolar, scitso, ocd and much more. He is not stable either and is being placed somewhere today (we are not together). Dealing with one bipolar person is enough for me. I know this is long but I guess Im just saying that I hope you find the right school for your child and I dont believe that would be in a program like a fragile program in a mainstream school. But hey thats just me. |

You are indeed fortunate to have the support of Centerstone and an educational placement that understands your daughter's needs and knows how to serve her. Being the parent of a child with such severe symptoms can be utterly enervating and even frightening, but when you receive help that is actually helpful, it makes it less burdensome to deal with the many other issues of day-to-day living with such a needy child. Good for you that you fought for the right placement for your daughter! Your success in securing a good school is an inspiration for the rest of us. Daunna Minnich Moderator, JBRF Education Forum |
