"Abilify Dose - 6 year old Mood Disorder NOS"

Hi, my daughter is on abilify - 5 mg currently. It does not seem like it is working anymore. We have a lot of aggression, anger, tantrums, NO patience...etc
Every day starts and ends with rages. I am getting really frustrated and need some relief.
She screams instead of talking it seems. So angry!
She weighs about 53lbs-

Just wondering if this is a high dose for her size/age or ???

For such a young child, the dosage would probably start at around 2 mg and then be increased, and it sounds like that has happened in your child's case. I would talk with your daughter's pdoc about next steps. Maybe an increased dose would help (if it's safe), or the doctor may want to try another or additional med.

Thanks Daunna! I appreciate your input.

This evening we realized that a lot of the recent difficulty is probably because we are trying to wean her off of buspar.

The poor kid!

I just emailed her doc and told him never mind about us asking for an increase in the abilify....that we need to do a slower wean off of buspar or even keep it in the mix.

Thanks for responding!!

We are not alone in this!! yay!

Viva Cyberland! It can be a great place to find people who know about what your family, friends, and neighbors often cannot begin to understand.

   >my daughter was diagnosed young like yours. She is twelve and doing well. We have her on Nerontin for her rages and Tenex for anxiety problems from school being so overwheelming. You may want to look into other meds. it doesn't sound like what she is on is doing the job.
