"Dx of BP but I am worried about schizoaffective now"

I long ago adopted two of my grandsons and consider them my sons. Daniel, the elder of the two by 9 mos and 9 days is 9 right now. He has been dx'd in the past with PTSD, BP, ADHD with signs of OCD. He is currently on Wellbutrin 100 mg twice a day, Clonidine 0.1 mg twice a day and Abilify 2 mg at bedtime. Things were going fairly well for a bit although I noticed an increase in depression about 6 months ago. My smiley boy was no longer. Things have gotten really bad in the past month or so and we will see the psychologist tomorrow.

He has become super sensitive and often when I pick him up from school he starts crying because someone has said or did something that "hurt my feelings". His off/on love/aggression towards his younger brother has increased as well. David is in the autism spectrum along with developmental delays.Oh what fun we have.

Daniel spends alot of his time at home either drumming or snapping his fingers. He says he cannot stop doing these things and wakes in the morning with sore fingers. Drives me a bit bonkers it does.

What is really scary is he has told me "I sometimes feel that even though I am here that I am somewhere else, like in a different house"
Over the past year he has threatened to hurt himself with a knife twice and now all knives are out of reach.

My late ex daug in law was their birth mother and suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder and more then likely other mental health problems. Her father's family all were mentally ill. She passed last July after setting fire to herself and suffering for 83 days in a burn center.

Just wanted to see if any of this snapping/drumming or "not here" stuff has been experienced by others with children with BP.

Thanks

The finger snapping and drumming sound like stimming behavior associated with autism. See http://www.creative-minds.info/index_files/Stimming.htm

That sense of "here but not here" must have been very unsettling for your grandson. One time when my daughter was pretty manic and overly energetic, I made the mistake of suggesting she might like to go outside. She dashed out the door and down the street, when normally she would have stayed in our own yard. She slowed to a walk after a block, but charged off again as I drew near. She lay down in the next not-too-busy intersection because, as she later explained, she wanted to die. Cars stopped, I retrieved her, and managed to get her home. When she was more "herself" at the hospital and was asked about what had happened, she said someone was chasing her. Who? "Mom." Not me, Mommy, but someone else, Mom.

Hope your doctor visit was helpful.

My son has had "delusional" moments ( I call them like that, not sure if it's the right term), especially when he is at the agressive stage. I, too, worry if he's going to develop schizophrenia later in life. What worries me the most is that, after he calms down, he does not remember saying the strange things he says. Like tonight, after a terrible episode of anger, he started talking about "the 'gods' being bad and mean to him".
I have heard that BP adults do have this "delusional" episodes at the manic stage. My sister did have these episodes when she was depressive. Today, she is a functional, hard working woman. However, she developed the dissorder in early adulthood and JBPD can be different from the adult dissorder.
