As the first step of this procedure you will be asked
to complete the Initial Survey, which will include your name,
child’s name, age, email address, and other demographic information.
To maintain confidentiality of this personal information, you will
be assigned an identifying number, or Parent ID.
Once you have completed the Initial Survey you will
receive your Parent ID, which you will need to access all the further
studies. This information will also be sent to your email address.
In the email there will be a URL that links to a password
protected section on the JBRF Web site. Once you've logged
in with your Parent ID you will see your Survey Summary
page, telling you what you've completed and what still needs to
be done. There will also be a link to a special Bulletin Board which
is only for parents who are taking part in these studies. The bulletin
board provides a forum where you are invited to ask any questions
you may have before proceeding to the next stage. This forum will
be a place to return at any time during the study to communicate
with research assistants to ask any questions that may arise.
There will also be answers to frequently asked question
(FAQ’s) posted on this page as well as standard consent forms
that can be printed or downloaded once you have decided to continue
in the study.
To determine your child’s eligibility for participation
in a JBRF sponsored research study, the next step is to complete
a 65 item questionnaire (The Child Bipolar Parent Questionnaire
V 2.0). This questionnaire is comprised of specific behaviors
and symptoms that your child may or may not have exhibited. If you
have another biological child with bipolar disorder whom you would
like to have participate in the survey you will have an opportunity
to complete another Initial Survey for them, either before or after
completing the Child Bipolar Parent Questionnaire for the first
child.
The information you provide will be archived in a
database and linked only to the Parent ID number. Your responses
to the questionnaire will be evaluated, and within 24 hours you
will receive an email message informing you whether or not the screening
criteria were met. Whether or not your child meets these
initial criteria for the current studies, we would like to contact
you in 6 months for a follow-up evaluation.
When you are ready to proceed to the initial survey
and evaluation questionnaire, please begin
here.
